TRUSTED
One consent. Multiple discoveries. Better representation in MS research.
Trusted (Trials and Registries Unified Sign-up Tool for Equitable Discoveries) is a UK-wide platform that enables people living with MS to securely join multiple registries and be matched to clinical trials through a single consent process.
Trusted is already transforming how people with MS participate in research across the UK.
WHAT TRUSTED ENABLES
Trusted connects people living with MS to:
-
National and international MS registries (including MSBase, UK MS Register, MS Pregnancy Register)
-
Clinical trial eligibility matching
-
Research opportunities across multiple NHS sites
Across 46 participating sites, over 3,800 people living with MS have already consented.
REAL-WORLD IMPACT
Trusted is already delivering measurable improvements in research delivery and participation at scale:
-
Trial recruitment is 71% faster using the Trusted Trial and Study Eligibility Checker
-
Trusted has tripled the UK contribution to MSBase in just one year, compared to the previous 20 years of recruitment combined
-
People from 51 of 56 NIHR-defined underserved groups have now joined Trusted

WHY REPRESENTATION MATTERS
Research is only truly useful if it reflects everyone it is meant to serve.
Our findings show that participation is not equal across all groups, with lower consent rates among:
-
Black and Asian people living with MS
-
People from more deprived backgrounds
-
Older individuals
-
People who smoke
-
Those experiencing multiple overlapping disadvantages
These patterns mean that even large research datasets risk under-representing people with the greatest health needs.
A PLATFORM BUILT FOR CHANGE
Trusted provides a scalable infrastructure for research participation, but also exposes where structural changes are needed to ensure equitable inclusion.
This evidence is already informing more inclusive approaches to consent, recruitment, and engagement across MS research.
